        <![CDATA[<p><br>Rose sat down recently with Dr Kerrie Nonan, a giant in the Australian death scene. <br>We hope you enjoy this chat. <br><br><br>Dr Kerrie Noonan is a clinical psychologist, social researcher, founder and innovator. <br><br>Over the past 25 years, Kerrie has been working to create a more death literate society, one where people and communities have the practical know-how needed to plan well and respond to dying death and grief. Kerrie has a long-standing interest in community capacity building approaches to death, dying and bereavement, palliative care and how people can build their grief and death literacy. <br><br></p><p><br>In 2010, Kerrie co-founded and was the founding executive director of The GroundSwell Project with Dr Peta Murray. Under Kerrie’s leadership until early 2019 the organisation developed a number of important collaborations including the Drama Project (Peta Murray, Nicole Bonfield,  Niki Read, Nepean High School); Dying to Know Day (with thanks to Jane Tewson at Igniting Change and Nicole Endacott), FilmLife Project (Nepean Hospital ICU Nurse Lizzie Barrett, ICE, Coalition of Mischief, Rohan and Gerlee Scanlan Jones, Organ and Tissue Donation Authority), Busting Cancer (Niki Read, Cancer Council NSW), Ten Things to Know Before you Go (Vasudhara Foundation).<br><br>Kerrie is a member of the Caring at End of Life Research team at Western Sydney University and is an investigator on the Death Literacy Index project. This pioneering research has investigated the role of family, friends and neighbours play when someone is dying at home and coined the term ‘death literacy’. The Caring at End of Life Research Team at WSU, led by Prof Debbie Horsfall has published a number of important contributions to the field including recent reports The Death Literacy Index and Researching Compassionate Communities in Australia. <br><br>Kerrie was awarded her PhD in 2018 by Western Sydney University for her study titled Renegade Stories: A study of deathworkers using social approaches to dying, death and loss in Australia. She has a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology, a BA (Psychology), and a Grad. Dip. in Systemic Therapy (Family Therapy). Kerrie is a fellow of the Sydney School for Social Entrepreneurs and has a Graduate Certificate in Business Administration from Griffith University. <br><br></p><p><br>She is on the council of Public Health Palliative Care International.</p><p><br></p>]]>

        <![CDATA[<p>Rebecca Lyons, mother of one, hails from the Blue Mountains in NSW. She started her working career in Sydney before making the move to Tasmania in late 2006.<br><br></p><p>Over her career, she has worked in various industries including finance, real estate, and the law but in 2011, she found her path into the funeral industry and stayed there until mid-2017 working across the many roles offered in the contemporary funeral industry; including pre-planning, administration, mortuary, funeral arranging and directing. Retraining as an End of Life Doula and becoming an independent Funeral Director she has worked in home-based death care and family-led funerals ever since.<br><br></p><p>Bec has also been actively working to advance the mission of You n’ Taboo which is the education and advocacy service she co-founded with her partner in 2016.<br>Most recently Bec was awarded a Churchill Fellowship to undertake international research and report on changes and disruptions in the end-of-life space which saw her travel through 6 countries exploring alternatives to contemporary ceremony and body disposal.         <![CDATA[<p>This month Rose has a chat with Fiona McCuaig, who is working towards creating her own Conservation Burial ground in southern NSW.<br> <br><strong>More about Fiona.</strong><br><br>Fiona has volunteered and worked for a number of marine conservation and environmental organisations throughout her property career. Fiona was a full-time volunteer for Sea Shepherd for nearly three years - she went on four dangerous campaigns including three anti-whaling campaigns in Antarctica and the Faroe Islands and was media promoter for the discovery channel show called <em>Whale Wars</em>. <br><br></p><p><br></p><p>Fiona's life project now is establishing the first conservation burial ground in Australia which will have 100% natural burials. The Bodalla Conservation Burial will create 20ha of protected forest ecosystem. We have lived in the outer eastern suburbs of Naarm/Melbourne for most of our lives. Growing up in the foothills of Mount Corhanwarrabul (in the Dandenong Ranges) on Wurundjeri Country, we were raised to care about the planet and animals, values that have very much persisted!
